Preambula
The Rodovid.org project is a non-profit public project aimed at creating an opportunity for any person from anywhere in the world to build their own tree for free and freely and to combine it with other trees.
However, the openness of the project lies not only in the free opportunities to create their own family trees, but also in the free opportunities for any person to access them. This means that your tree can be seen by any person on the World Wide Web.
In view of this, we remind you that the posting of information about living persons on our site must be with their consent or the consent of their guardians or trustees. If you have not received such consent directly, you must be sure that such a person will not object to the posting of information about themselves on this resource.
YOU ARE PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING RECORDS ON THE RODOVID PORTAL!!!
We do not recommend posting publicly any information that may harm a person, including postal and email addresses, telephone numbers, and document details.
Please note that at the request of interested parties, information about them will be deleted without warning!
Seamless data deletion. If record was edited only by one user such record can be deleted by this user at any moment without any precautions.
Privacy as a sponsored service
(planned)
Privacy is a sponsored service: public records are free by default; masking eligible data requires payment to offset infrastructure costs. A multi-stage grace period (locked → partial exposure → public reversion) protects users from accidental lapses while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Collaboration is enabled through group-based permissions: owners can grant other members customized visibility without exposing data publicly.
Rodovid operates as a tool provider, not a data controller. The system does not apply any default settings or automation beyond the limits of private records. Warnings educate; owners decide. Legal compliance is achieved through seamless deletion upon request and clear jurisdictional warnings. Active donors have additional control: ownership transfer, and data export rights prevent platform lock-in.
Private record limits
Any record can be private only if:
- if the user is an active donator of the Rodovid Foundation.
- if the record is added to a private group.
- if the death date in the record is less than 70 years old.
- if the record has no death date and if the birth date is less than 150 years old.
- if the record has neither a death date nor a birth date and if the creation date is less than 10 years old.
- non active donor's private records:
- stay private for 10 years after the last donation.
- could not be viewed, edited, or exported by anybody including owner of the record.
- could be deleted (without preview) by owner at any moment.
Basic functionality
- The creator of a record becomes owner of the record. At this moment owned records are shown at:
- last 10 on the record edit form only for registered users
- all owned records can be observed only by registered user on the special page (see SpecialPages, section Rodovid)
- A record belongs to its owner in all localizations at once at the moment of creation
- Basic group management (add/rename, default group) can be performed in the Genealogy section of user's preferences
- Every owner can add the owned record to an owned private group or leave a record without group on the record edit form
- Basic private record processing – if a record belongs to the first user's private group – this record is private and should be shown only to the record owner (under construction)
Donor features
- can change group visibility at the special page (planned)
Benefactor features
- includes all donor features
- any group can be private (planned)
