Would it be possible to do GEDCOM Export as well. I'm thinking of being able to select a person and export a GEDCOM of all their relations (not the whole database).--Bjwebb 16:46, 12 February 2006 (EET)

  • BTW, an idea for gedcom export: you need a simple way for people to select the individuals to export. How about using categories? When I upload a gedcom, all of the individuals created could be assigned a category I provide. When I want to create a gedcom file to export, I select that category. If I want to add people from others' gedcom uploads to my download, I just my category to their pages beforehand. --Dallan 06:57, 6 March 2006 (EET)
  • What about gedcoms that contains 1000 and more records? I think that export all peoples into tree of selected person will be enough. --Baya 11:02, 6 March 2006 (EET)
  • Well, not just everyone in the tree you see. It would be good if it exported all relations (e.g. the son/daughter of one of your ancestors siblings). Would that be possible? I think the category idea is good, perhaps you could have a limit to the number of people you can have in a category, or have the GEDCOM Exporter call an error if there are too many people. It would be nice to have both so that people can choose.--Bjwebb 14:12, 6 March 2006 (EET)
  • I'm not sure what reasonable limits would be for the sizes of gedcom imports and exports. I believe that average sizes of gedcom files for serious genealogists are around 5,000-15,000 people. You might be able to ask people to break up their gedcom's into smaller sizes though.--Dallan 07:35, 7 March 2006 (EET)
  • It is unusable information 15000 records into one category. I think that is more convienient work with full (ansectors, descendants) tree of just a ONE person. Of course I add this feature. --Baya 12:34, 7 March 2006 (EET)
  • When you say you will add the feature, do you mean the category one aswell, or just the ancestor+descendant one. Personally I think you should add both to RD_engine and see how well they work.--Bjwebb 16:51, 7 March 2006 (EET)
  • Both :) sorry for long delay --Baya 18:29, 10 March 2006 (EET)
  • By the way, I think you should have a clan tree export, so you can select one or more clans to export as GEDCOM. So you could select everyone with the clan name Webb, Bailey or Biddulph.--Bjwebb 20:58, 26 March 2006 (EEST)

[edit] Status

  • What's the status for GEDCOM export? I'm building my family tree with some close and distant relatives and we're trying to find the best way to share data. We like Rodovid, but at the moment we can't download GEDCOM files that others upload. Would really like this feature. Is this feature in the future plans for Rodovid? --User:Anders September 17, 2006
  • Yes, it is a future plan for Rodovid. --Baya 11:34, 17 September 2006 (EEST)
  • What's the approximate timeframe for downloading GEDCOM? 2006? 2007? Baya, this is a great site! Looking forward to further collaboration. --User: Anders September 18, 2006
  • At summer begging I said that I finish to code new rodovid engine version to the end of summer, unfortunatly, I does not make it. I can't spend all my time for rodovid ((. I can say that for finishing of new version I must spend approximatly 60-100 hours. But I can't say will I have so many time for rodovid during nearest few months. Also we must finish (I hope we will do it) merging of WikiTree & Rodovid. It's also take maybe same time. After that I will work for enhencement requests added to bugzilla (gedcom export one of requested enhencement). --Baya 22:18, 17 September 2006 (EEST)

It's now late November of 2008, over 2 years since the last update. I was wondering if this feature is going to be implemented --Kimontalk 01:07, 22 November 2008 (EET)
